The Barkann Family Healing Hearts Foundation has chosen a very special local family to support as the beneficiary from funds raised from The 4th Annual Albidale Old Timers Family Fun Day on June 12, 2016 at Willow Grove Day Camp.
Faith is an adorable 12 year old girl diagnosed with trisomy 18, pulmonary artery hypertension, respiratory insufficiency, fragile bone disease and scoliosis. She has a tracheostomy and requires mechanical ventilation at night when she sleeps as well as around the clock care.
When Faith was born at 2lbs 8oz her doctors predicted she would not live longer than one month. Despite this grim prognosis Faith has overcome so many challenges, beaten the odds and has grown to be a happy, loving, affectionate child.
Sadly, the past year has been incredibly difficult for Faith and her family. In late 2014 Faith’s father was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. He endured a very tough battle, passing away on December 1, 2014, just a few short months after his diagnosis.
Faith and her mother have been devastated by this horrible loss and have had to bear many challenges adjusting to life without Faith’s beloved dad.
Not long after losing her father, Faith and her mother experienced another significant loss when Faith’s Aunt Sarah passed away suddenly. Faith’s aunt had been living with Faith and her family for many years.
Aunt Sarah had had chronic health conditions and prior to her death she was being cared for by Faith’s mother, Karen, who is a Certified Nursing Assistant. The loss of Faith’s aunt has been doubly devastating as they not only lost another beloved family member, but also mom’s income as a caregiver.
The loss of Faith’s father and Aunt Sarah in such a short period of time has truly shocked Faith and her mother, emotionally and financially. Suddenly in the span of a few months mom found herself a single mom to Faith and without employment.
Any help that can be provided to Faith and her mom as they navigate this new chapter of their lives will be very much appreciated.
Please join us as we come together as one Family to support Faith and her Mom with our love and overwhelming generosity.
